Posts 40 percent snap share
Bernard had four carries for 15 yards and caught two of three targets for 31 yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Analysis: Joe Mixon once again got the lion's share of work at running back, but Bernard was on the field for 30 offensive snaps, good for 40 percent. This is about the peak expectation for him, absent a Mixon injury.

Minimal involvement in win
Bernard rushed once for four yards and caught one of two targets for eight yards in Sunday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The 28-year-old played a season-low 13 offensive snaps as Joe Mixon dominated the backfield work with 19 carries and four receptions. Bernard now has played only 34 plays on offense over the last two games. Andy Dalton reclaimed the starting job at quarterback and led the Bengals to their first win of the year, but the status quo for the veteran running back remains unchanged.

Three catches Sunday
Bernard had three catches for 31 yards but just one carry that lost a yard during Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Bernard was on the field for only 21 snaps, his second lowest of the season and third lowest as a percentage of the team's offensive snaps. With Andy Dalton returning for the final five games, there's a smidgen of hope that he'll be more productive, but it's a far cry from his top seasons, even with that hope.

Efficient game
Bernard had three carries for 30 yards and a catch for 16 yards on three targets in Sunday's loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: After leaving Week 10 with a knee injury, Bernard was back at full speed this week, playing 33 offensive snaps.

Not on injury report
Bernard (knee) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, Tyler Dragon of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Bernard sprained his knee during Sunday's 49-13 loss to the Ravens, with the injury causing him to leave the field for a spell before he ultimately re-entered the game. The 27-year-old's absence from the injury report suggests he's moved past the issue, so expect Bernard to play his usual complementary role behind Joe Mixon in Week 11 against Oakland.

Suffers sprained knee
Bernard suffered a knee sprain during Sunday's 49-13 loss to the Ravens, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The report also notes that the running back -- who exited Sunday's game for a spell before re-entering the contest -- isn't expected to miss significant time. At a minimum, however, it appears as though Bernard's practice participation leading up to this coming weekend's contest against the Raiders will be impacted.

Returns to Sunday's game
Bernard returned to Sunday's game against the Ravens after being forced out of the contest with a knee injury, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Initially, it appeared as though the Bengals were prepared to rule the running back out of the contest, but Bernard was able to return to the field and will now continue to work in backup/complementary role behind Joe Mixon.

Exits Sunday's game
Bernard was forced out of Sunday's game against the Ravens after suffering a right knee injury, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Prior to his exit, Bernard carried twice for 10 yards while working behind Joe Mixon. In his absence, added snaps could be available for reserve back Trayveon Williams.

Some late production
Bernard had three carries for 31 yards and two catches for 14 more yards in Sunday's loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Most of Bernard's production came on one longer run, and he was in the game frequently late as the Bengals tried to get one last score. He heads into the bye week with a meager 206 scrimmage yards and is still looking for his first score of the season.

Little offensive impact
Bernard didn't gain a yard on four carries and caught two of three targets for four yards in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: There was absolutely nowhere to run for the Bengals' backfield, as even Joe Mixon recorded just two yards on 10 carries. Although Mixon is the clear No. 1 running back, the Bengals' pitiful defense keeps Andy Dalton throwing, and Mixon hasn't marked 20 rushes in a game yet while averaging just 3.0 YPC. It's tough to hold onto Bernard even as a handcuff.

Non-factor in Week 6 loss
Bernard carried four times for a total of four rushing yards and caught two of three targets for 20 receiving yards during Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Game flow worked in favor of the Bengals' veteran passing-downs back, but Bernard still was largely uninvolved out of the backfield. He now has three or fewer targets in five of six games this season and has only once exceeded 20 receiving yards. In Week 7, he will be facing a Jaguars defense that allowed a combined 10 catches for 70 yards to top Saints backs Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray on Sunday.

Gains 26 yards in loss
Bernard ran for 10 yards on two carries and added 16 yards on three catches during Sunday's 26-23 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: It was an overall good decent day for the Bengals rushing offense, ranked 31st in the league, but Joe Mixon, with 93 rushing yards, was the prime beneficiary. The 26 yards represented Bernard's highest total since Week 1 on a team that continues to struggle to put it together. His pass-catching ability may be a path forward as the Bengals visit Baltimore and the league's 27th-ranked pass defense Sunday.

Quiet in loss
Bernard rushed once for three yards and caught four of six targets for an additional 16 yards in Monday's loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Bernard saw seven carries in the season opener against Seattle, but he's seen his role decrease ever since, getting six and three carries in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively. The 27-year-old has, however, seen his targets out of the backfield increase, with Sunday's six being a season-high. Bernard also saw 23 offensive snaps (33 percent) in Monday's game.

Minimal production
Bernard was held to five rushing yards on three carries along with two catches for seven yards in Sunday's loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Bernard was limited to 26 offensive snaps as Joe Mixon's ankle was fully healed this week. The Bengals' offense was stagnant for an entire half, which severely curtailed the number of plays that they ran. This level of participation is reminiscent of his usage last season.

Takes step back against Niners
Bernard ran for six yards on six carries and added a seven-yard reception during Sunday's 41-17 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Bernard wasn't great running the ball in relief of Joe Mixon in Week 1's loss to Seattle, but at least made a big catch. There was no such luck Sunday against the 49ers. Through two games Bernard nor Mixon have been able to get the running game going for the Bengals. Week 3 doesn't offer much ease with a matchup against the stingy Bills.

Steps in after Mixon injury
Bernard carried seven times for 21 yards while adding 42 yards on two receptions (three targets) during Sunday's 21-20 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Bernard stepped into a larger role after Joe Mixon (ankle) left with an injury, and while he wasn't particularly effective on the ground, he made quite an impact as a pass-catcher. The extent of Mixon's injury should become more clear in the coming days, with virtually all of Bernard's fantasy value tied to the diagnosis. If his teammate is forced to miss time, Bernard would see a dramatic uptick in fantasy value, beginning as soon as next Sunday against the 49ers at home.

Signs extension
Bernard is slated to sign to a two-year, $10.3 million extension with the Bengals, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Bernard is thus in the fold with the team through the 2021 season. The 27-year-old brings leadership to the table, as well as the ability to both thrive in a change-of-pace role. He can also step into a more featured role in the event of an injury to starter Joe Mixon.

Minimal role Thursday
Though he started Thursday's preseason game against the Giants, Bernard had just three carries for four yards and one reception for six yards.
Analysis: The first-team offense saw limited snaps, but the run game failed to produce much and has struggled all preseason. Bernard will likely sit out the preseason finale against the Colts next week.

Won't play Saturday
Bernard and Joe Mixon are not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, Bernard -- who had been nursing minor hamstring injury -- could play in the contest if necessary, but coach Zac Taylor indicated that he plans to sit his top two backs Saturday, so that the team can get a better look at its depth options.

Absent from practice
Bernard did not practice Monday due to a minor hamstring injury, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bernard reportedly felt healthy enough to practice had he been allowed, so his absence appears mostly precautionary. The Bengals appear to be taking a prudent approach to the veteran running back's health. Bernard is entering the final season of a three-year extension with Cincinnati and appears primed for the No. 2 role behind Joe Mixon. If Bernard were to miss significant time, however, it could open the door for rookie sixth-round pick Trayveon Williams to earn increased reps.

Still repping with starters
Bernard shared work with Joe Mixon during the offseason program, Laurel Pfahler of The Dayton Daily News reports.
Analysis: With Bernard entering the final season of a three-year, $15.5 million extension, the Bengals used sixth-round picks on Trayveon Williams and Rodney Anderson (knee). The 27-year-old may find himself looking for a new home next offseason, but he doesn't appear to have serious competition for the second spot on the depth chart in 2019. Bernard averaged just 2.9 carries and 2.6 receptions in the 10 games both he and Mixon played last season. Each of Bernard's three touchdowns and 130 of his 211…read more

Another tiny stat line
Bernard had three carries for seven yards and two catches for eight yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Bernard actually got the start on the first series ahead of Joe Mixon, but that was largely ceremonial, as Mixon was the primary ball carrier again Sunday. That's reflective of the new reality -- Mixon became a three-down back this season, so Bernard's role was marginalized except for the two weeks where Mixon was hurt. He finishes the year with 211 yards rushing and 218 yards receiving, tallying three touchdowns in the process.

Provides no yardage
Bernard caught both of his targets, but was unable to gain yardage during Sunday's 26-18 loss to Cleveland.
Analysis: The two touches tied a season low for the veteran back. Bernard hasn't scored since Week 4 and has topped 40 total yards just once in seven active games since as Joe Mixon has accounted for 65.7 percent of the Bengals' carries this season. The season ends next Sunday against a top-10 Pittsburgh run defense, surrendering just 4.1 yards per carry.

Minimal production again
Bernard had six carries for seven yards and two catches for 25 yards in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Analysis: The six carries and 30 offensive snaps were actually as high as Bernard has gotten when Joe Mixon has been healthy, and Bernard even got a red-zone carry inside the 10-yard line, but it's clear this isn't going to approach a timeshare so long as Mixon isn't hurt.

Totals 20 yards in loss
Bernard ran for seven yards on three carries and added 13 yards on two catches during Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: While Joe Mixon continues to dominate the backfield work, Bernard has not quite found his groove after returning from a sprained MCL. He topped 40 total yards in three of his first four games of 2018 and scored thrice. In his five games since returning, he's reached that total just once and has not scored. Bernard has gotten some more work as a receiver since backup Jeff Driskel took over under center, averaging four catches per game with Driskel compared to three catches per game in seven…read more

Six catches in losing effort
Bernard had six catches on eight targets for 32 yards in the Bengals' Week 13 loss to the Broncos. He also had five catches for 14 yards.
Analysis: The Bengals had trouble moving the ball against the Broncos all day, so Bernard's relatively heavy volume in the passing game made a meager impact.

Two touches in Week 12
Bernard rushed once for 10 yards and caught his only target for 12 yards in Sunday's 35-20 loss to the Browns.
Analysis: The Bengals only rushed 20 times as a team, though it's likely that didn't impact Bernard's touches, as the veteran running back has failed to see more than two carries in three consecutive contests. Bernard has 39 carries for 176 yards this season, but without a plethora of touches, he can't be relied on as a fantasy option.

Gathers 25 yards
Bernard caught all four of his targets for 20 yards and added five yards on two carries during Sunday's 24-21 loss to Baltimore.
Analysis: Sunday provided a slight uptick for Bernard as he comes back from his knee injury, with six touches as compared to four from Week 10. He manged to gain fewer yards, however. He's had a tough few games to judge him fairly, though. The Ravens bottled up the run game Sunday, and last week, the Saints were up by too much for Cincinnati's run game to matter all that much. Still, he trails Joe Mixon in touches 28 to 10 since returning. He is unlikely to get enough touches to be too much of a factor…read more

Modest use in first game back
Bernard brought in two of three targets for 30 yards and added two carries for six yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Bernard was the preferred option in the Bengals' two-minute drill, but Joe Mixon still logged most of the snaps in the backfield. However, the entire second half was essentially garbage time, which makes it difficult to judge the team's plans for the division of labor in the backfield in Week 11.

Returns from four-game absence
Bernard is active for Sunday's game against the Saints, Fletcher Page of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Bernard will suit up for the first time since Week 4 after sustaining a sprained MCL, an injury that sidelined him for four straight games. Prior to getting hurt, Bernard had been working in a three-down role for the Bengals while Joe Mixon was recovering from a knee injury of his own, but Mixon has since returned to full health. Likely available in Week 10
Bernard (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, is expected to play, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Analysis: Sidelined for more than a month with an MCL sprain, Bernard participated in practice with the Bengals throughout the week, albeit in a limited capacity. He'll likely hold a pregame workout before his status is decided, but the running back appears to be trending toward a return to action. Given the long layoff along with the fact that he still might not be 100 percent healthy, Bernard may not immediately reclaim his role as the Bengals' top pass-catching option out of the backfield if he suits…read more

Listed as questionable this week
Bernard (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Doing the math, with six players already ruled out by the Bengals and Alex Redmond considered doubtful, there's currently no room for Bernard on the team's Week 10 inactive list. Assuming he's available for the team's 1:00 PM ET kickoff Sunday, Bernard would step into a change-of-pace role behind Joe Mixon, who is coming off his best game of the season. It's an assignment that could yield a degree of PPR utility for Bernard, but volume will be an issue for him as long as Mixon is healthy.

Bernard (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Bernard has opened Week 10 with back-to-back limited practice sessions, but the Bengals may have been hoping for him to put in a little more work coming off a bye. Cincinnati will wait and see if Bernard is able to upgrade to a full session Friday, but if not, the running back would almost certainly carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Saints. Listed as limited on initial injury report
Bernard (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Bernard returned to work Monday coming off the Bengals' bye and is hoping to play in a game for the first time since Week 4, when he suffered an MCL sprain. His return for Sunday's game against the Saints likely would push Mark Walton out of a role in the Cincinnati offense, while Joe Mixon would face legitimate competition for passing-down snaps. Bernard may need to log a full practice session before the Bengals are comfortable bringing him back for a game.

Returns to practice
Bernard (knee) is practicing Monday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Coming out of a Week 9 bye, Bernard made his first appearance on the practice field since suffering an MCL sprain Week 4. A return for Sunday's game against the Saints would put a slight damper on Joe Mixon's projection, considering Bernard poses more of a threat than Mark Walton. That being said, Mixon handled a 79 percent snap share against the Colts in Week 1, the only time this season both he and Bernard made it through a game without any injury problems.
