Lands on IR
Mack (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Mack injured his hamstring in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, and he was not expected to recover in time to play Week 18 against the Chargers. His move to IR ensures he won't, while also creating room for cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian to be added to the active roster. Mack's season will end with him having appeared in eight games, two with the 49ers and six with the Broncos, seeing 16 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. He also caught eight of his 10 targets for 99 yards and another touchdown.

Not expected to play Sunday
Mack is expected to miss the Broncos' season finale against the Chargers on Sunday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Per Klis, Mack injured his hamstring on a kickoff return at the start of the Broncos' Week 17 loss to the Chiefs. With Mack reportedly not in line to play this coming weekend, Tyler Badie figures to suit up versus Los Angeles and log complementary snaps behind Latavius Murray and Chase Edmonds.

Injures hamstring Sunday
Mack suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's game at Kansas City.
Analysis: Prior to his departure in the first quarter, Mack had one kick return for 20 yards. The Broncos are down to just Latavius Murray and Chase Edmonds at running back as long as Mack is sidelined.

Minimal involvement in loss
Mack rushed four times for 22 yards in Sunday's 51-14 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Mack was unable to secure his lone target in the contest. With Chase Edmonds making his return from injured reserve, Mack was relegated to No. 3 running back duties Sunday. The veteran played just 10 of the Broncos' 67 offensive snaps, while Latavius Murray and Edmonds handled a near even split of playing time with 31 and 28 snaps, respectively. Mack's lack of involvement on an already struggling offense should keep him far off the fantasy radar when the Broncos visit the Chiefs in Week 17.

Finds end zone again
Mack rushed five times for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-15 win over Arizona. He added four receptions on four targets for 26 yards.
Analysis: Mack worked clearly behind Latavius Murray in the Denver backfield, recording only nine touches compared to Murray's 25. However, Mack was able to provide a few explosive plays, highlighted by a three-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and a 17-yard run early in the fourth. While Mack's role remains relatively minimal, he is the clear backup running back in Denver and has scored in consecutive contests.

Dazzling TD in Sunday's loss
Mack carried the ball three times for 15 yards and caught two of three targets for 62 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-28 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: The veteran back didn't see action until Mike Boone was carted off with an ankle injury in the second quarter, but Mack capitalized on his opportunity by taking a screen pass from Russell Wilson (concussion) 66 yards for a TD on the Broncos' first possession of the second half. It was Mack's first trip to the end zone since 2019, his final healthy season with the Colts, and the explosiveness he flashed on the touchdown was certainly reminiscent of that 1,000-yard campaign. Minimal involvement in loss
Mack rushed two times for three yards and secured his only target for six yards in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Mack played just five of the Broncos' 53 offensive snaps Sunday, operating as the No. 3 running back. The veteran recorded two rushes and one catch in each of his first two games with Denver. With Latavius Murray dominating touches out of the backfield and Mike Boone slotting in as the team's top backup, Mack's opportunities for meaningful production should remain limited going forward. Barring injuries to Murray and Boone, the 26-year-old should be far off the fantasy radar when the Broncos…read more

Handles two carries in loss
Mack rushed two times for seven yards and secured his only target for five yards in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Mack played just six of Denver's 60 offensive snaps in his debut with the Broncos, operating as the backup to Latavius Murray. The veteran running back's three touches out of the backfield were a distant second behind Murray's 14 touches in the contest. Mack's limited upside in a struggling offense could be capped even more with Mike Boone's possible return from injured reserve in Week 13. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old Mack will try to establish himself as a contributor in the Broncos' new-look…read more

Should have role in Denver debut
Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said Friday that Mack will have a role in the game plan in Sunday's matchup with the Panthers, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports. "He's going to have to go in there and take advantage of this opportunity...he's got a little extra burst," Hackett said of Mack.
Analysis: Denver signed Mack off San Francisco's practice squad Oct. 24, but the veteran running back has been a healthy inactive for each of the Broncos' subsequent three contests. However, with the Broncos waiving Melvin Gordon and placing Chase Edmonds (ankle) on injured reserve in recent days, Mack looks set to operate as the primary backup to starter Latavius Murray in Week 12. Though Murray projects to see most of the touches out of the backfield, he's averaging just 3.3 yards per carry through…read more

Could be Week 12 backup
Mack is likely to work as the backup to Latavius Murray in Week 12 against the Panthers, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Mack slides up to second on the depth chart following the cut of Melvin Gordon and Chase Edmonds' high-ankle sprain. Devine Ozigbo is a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad against Carolina to compete with Mack for playing time behind Murray. Mack has yet to register a rushing attempt in 2022.

Not playing Week 8
Mack (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Though Mike Boone's (ankle) recent move to injured reserve opens up a spot for a third running back in Denver, Mack looks like he'll have to wait until after a Week 9 bye to make his Broncos debut after he was signed off the 49ers' practice squad Monday. Mack's lack of utility on special teams may have been a factor in him sitting out in London, as the Broncos are opting to keep Devine Ozigbo active in London as the No. 3 option behind Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray.

Could play in Week 8
Mack could garner some snaps in the Broncos' backfield in Week 8 against the Jaguars, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Analysis: Mack was signed to the Broncos' active roster Monday after the team acquired him from the 49ers' practice squad, and head coach Nathaniel Hackett said Friday that the running back is "definitely an option" to play Sunday versus Jacksonville. Mack will likely operate as the third fiddle behind Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray in Week 8, greatly limiting his upside.

Links up with Broncos
Denver signed Mack to the active roster off the 49ers' practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mack is set to fly with his new team to London on Monday in preparation for a Week 8 matchup against the Jaguars. The veteran's chance in Denver comes following an ankle injury to Mike Boone, the severity of which has yet to be determined. If Boone can't go versus Jacksonville on Sunday, Mack could see work in a backfield led by Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray.

Signs with 49ers' practice squad
Mack was signed to the 49ers' practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Mack will return to 49ers after being released by the team Tuesday, joining their practice unit. The running back seems to have fallen out of favor in San Francisco's backfield and will now operate as an extreme depth option behind starter Jeff Wilson.

Time with 49ers ends
Mack was released by San Francisco on Tuesday.
Analysis: Mack signed to the 49ers' practice squad Sept. 13, and he ultimately made it to the active roster in Week 3 and 4, but he only contributed five snaps on special teams. He was a healthy inactive Week 5, as the team opted to elevate Tevin Coleman from the practice squad to operate as the team's No. 3 running back instead. Mack has had trouble finding a steady role since suffering an Achilles tear in Week 1 of the 2020 season.

Healthy inactive Week 5
Mack (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 5 clash against the Panthers.
Analysis: The veteran back garnered active status for the last two games but logged only a combined five special-teams snaps, and he'll now sit out altogether Sunday. In his stead, Tevin Coleman, who was promoted from the practice squad Saturday, will serve as the No. 3 running back behind Jeff Wilson and Jordan Mason against Carolina.

No touches in first game with SF
Mack was only on the field for three special teams snaps in Sunday's 11-10 loss to Denver.
Analysis: Mack was signed from the practice squad to replace the injured Tyrion Davis-Price and serve as the team's third back. The former Colt didn't get involved in the offensive game plan, but the veteran's track record of success (1,999 combined rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 2018 and 2019) could see him jump ahead of undrafted rookie Jordan Mason (five offensive snaps) as Jeff Wilson's backup while Davis-Price recovers from an ankle injury. Signed to San Fran's active roster
The 49ers signed Mack to the active roster from their practice squad Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mack will get the promotion after news broke that rookie third-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle) will be sidelined for a few weeks. The team already lost Elijah Mitchell (knee) to injured reserve, so Mack will compete with undrafted rookie Jordan Mason for backup snaps behind Jeff Wilson. The former Colt has amassed at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage twice in his career, but he's struggled to stick in the NFL since he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in September 2020.

Cut from practice squad
The Texans released Mack from the practice squad Monday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Mack was cut from the practice squad to make room for Chris Conley. The Texans officially signed Mack to their practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Mack was among Houston's roster cuts Tuesday, but now that he's back with the organization in some capacity, he'll be eligible for elevation to the active roster Week 1 and beyond. With rookie fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce poised to lead the backfield, Mack would be vying for snaps with Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale for any games in which he's active.

Mack plans to sign with the Texans' practice squad upon clearing waivers Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Mack was a surprising roster cut Tuesday, but he looks poised to remain a backfield option for Houston after all. For now, Dameon Pierce and Rex Burkhead are the top available options on the team's 53-man roster, but if Mack indeed lands on the team's practice squad, he'll be eligible for elevation whenever the Texans require an additional option in the backfield.

The Texans are releasing Mack, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Mack seemingly entered camp with a shot at the starting job but fell behind rookie fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce, who is headed for the lead role Week 1 against Indianapolis. The 26-year-old Mack has only 32 carries and five catches since running for over 1,000 yards in 2019.

Works in second half Thursday
Mack had 10 carries for 55 yards during Thursday's preseason win against the 49ers.
Analysis: After starting the Texans' first two exhibitions, Mack didn't take the field until the second half of preseason Week 3, yielding the start to rookie fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce (six rushes for 37 yards and one TD). Rex Burkhead also got run in the first half en route to 11 touches for 31 yards from scrimmage. Solid in Friday start
Mack rushed eight times for 29 yards in the Texans' 24-20 preseason win over the Rams on Friday night.
Analysis: Mack drew the start while rookie Dameon Pierce was held out of action, and the veteran was able to put in a more productive showing than his three-carry, six-yard tally during the preseason opener against the Saints on Saturday. Mack carried the ball three times for six yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over the Saints.
Analysis: Mack drew the start at running back with the Texans' first-team offense on the field for the opening two series, but only one of his three carries went for more than three yards as the unit struggled to move the ball early. In line to play Saturday
Mack is slated to play in Saturday's preseason contest versus the Saints, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Meanwhile, Rex Burkhead is not expected to suit up. Notably, Mack was listed as the top running back on the Texans' first unofficial depth chart, so it stands to reason the coaching staff may hold a different view on the situation. In any case, rookie fourth-rounder Dameon Pierce will sub in for Mack and likely get a fair amount of action before halftime, while the team's remaining healthy RBs are Dare Ogunbowale, Royce Freeman and BJ Emmons.

Atop depth chart with Burkhead
Mack and Rex Burkhead are listed as the first running backs on the Texans' unofficial depth chart for the preseason opener against the Saints on Saturday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The two veterans lead the position group, with Mack's name listed first. It was presumed the former Colt would be the team's lead back, but the Texans want to see him prove it during preseason game action, as Mack is coming off an Achilles injury that wiped out his 2020 season and was used sparingly (six games, 57 snaps) in 2021. Dameon Pierce, a 2022 fourth-round pick out of Florida, is third in line.

Confident in Achilles
Mack said he fully trusts his Achilles and did not get a chance to show how healthy he was in 2021 with the Colts, Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network reports.
Analysis: Mack suffered an Achilles injury that wiped out most of his 2020 season, and by the time he was healthy last season, the lead-back job in Indianapolis was in the capable hands of Jonathan Taylor. Mack played just six games and had 28 carries for 101 yards last season, but the five-year veteran gets a chance to show off his health as the perceived lead back for Houston, which is expected to run often in 2022. Along with Mack, Rex Burkhead and Dameon Pierce round out the top of the depth chart.

Competing for role
Mack is competing with Rex Burkhead, Dameon Pierce and other running backs for roles in the Houston backfield, Drew Dougherty of houstontexans.com reports.
Analysis: Pierce reportedly is making a strong impression, but it seems like a wide-open competition, and Mack is the only one with experience working as an NFL lead back. That was years ago, of course, and he's taken only 28 regular-season carries since suffering an Achilles tear in Week 1 of 2020 with the Colts. Mack did run for 908 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018 (195 carries - 4.7 YPC), followed by 1,091 yards and eight TDs in 2019 (247 carries - 4.4 YPC).

Indianapolis then selected Jonathan Taylor in the second round of the 2020 Draft, which was followed by Mack tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of that campaign. Ends year as No. 4 on depth chart
Mack rushed 28 times for 101 yards while securing two of five targets for eight yards across six appearances in 2021.
Analysis: The 25-year-old began the 2021 campaign as the Colts' No. 3 running back behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, but he saw limited playing time early in the season. Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek a trade in late September, but a trade partner wasn't found. Stays put at trade deadline
Mack wasn't moved to another team ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, despite he and the Colts mutually agreeing to seek a deal elsewhere, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: A quiet market for running backs was ultimately a major factor in Mack remaining in Indianapolis once the deadline passed. After playing just one snap on offense in last week's loss to the Titans, Mack will likely continue to fill a small role on offense unless Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines were to miss time. Just three carries Sunday
Mack had three carries for four yards in Sunday's 30-18 win at San Francisco.
Analysis: Mack played on just four snaps on offense as his small role was slightly lower than his past three games because Jonathan Taylor was on a roll (18 carries for 107 yards). The larger question for Mack's fantasy value is whether he's moved before the Nov. 2 trade deadline because Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek a trade three weeks ago.

Has 47 yards rushing
Mack had five carries for 47 yards and one reception for seven yards on two targets in Monday's loss to Baltimore.
Analysis: Mack played just 10 snaps on offense with both Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines healthy. Last week, head coach Frank Reich said he ideally would give Mack five carries a week, which seems odd given his spot on the depth chart and with him demanding a trade two weeks ago. Still, it looks like he may continue to see a steady, but small, role in the offense, usage which could be intended to showcase him for a team in need of backfield help.

Gets 10 carries Sunday
Mack had 10 carries for 22 yards and one reception on two targets for one yard in Sunday's win at Miami. "In my mind, the starting point is Jonathan [Taylor] with 20 carries, Nyheim with five and Marlon [Mack] with five,'' Frank Reich told Fox 59 TV Indianapolis after the game. "But there's give-and-take depending on how the game goes.''
Analysis: Mack had received just five carries Week 2 and no touches the other two weeks. He got more carries in a game where the Colts were rushing the ball well (Taylor had 103 yards), which makes sense. However, it's a little odd Mack had increased usage, and Reich gave him a vote of confidence just days after Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek a trade. Unless he's traded to a team with a need at running back, Mack is still likely to have a minimal role off the bench unless Taylor or Nyheim…read more

Back in the mix Sunday
Mack is active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: As is Jonathan Taylor, who has been managing a knee issue, as well as change-of-pace back Nyheim Hines. In that context, Mack and Jordan Wilkins are on hand in reserve, but they don't appear destined for high-volume roles in Week 4, barring in-game developments that would change that.

Available on trade market
Mack and the Colts have mutually agreed to seek a trade, resulting in him being inactive for Sunday's 25-16 loss to the Titans, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Mack entered the 2021 campaign at full health after going down with a season-ending torn Achilles' tendon in Week 1 of 2020, but he played just 12 total snaps through the Colts' first two contests before donning street clothes in Tennessee. With second-year standout Jonathan Taylor carrying the load on the ground and Nyheim Hines locked in as the Colts' top pass-catching option out of the backfield, Mack -- who doesn't contribute on special teams -- was left without much of a role in…read more

Inactive Sunday
Mack is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Analysis: Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis suggests that Mack was made a scratch to open up an extra spot on Sunday's roster for a third QB. With Mack not in the team's Week 3 backfield mix, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins are on hand to work in complementary roles behind Jonathan Taylor.

Gets first carries of season
Mack had five carries for 16 yards and didn't have a reception on his lone target in Sunday's loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Mack didn't play Week 1, despite being healthy, so this is a positive step, despite his small role. He played 12 snaps on offense compared to 25 snaps for Nyheim Hines and 30 snaps for Jonathan Taylor. Mack's role could increase, but he'll still be the distant third option in the Indy backfield if the top two backs are healthy.

Doesn't play in season opener
Mack was active but did not play in Sunday's loss to Seattle.
Analysis: Mack returned from a season-ending Achilles tendon tear suffered in Week 1 of last year, but he's clearly behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines on the depth chart. Still, it's somewhat surprising Mack didn't get any action in the game because he's said to be back to full strength. It likely will take an injury to Taylor or Hines for Mack to have a significant role.

Listed as No. 3 back
Mack is listed as the No. 3 running back behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines on the Colts' unofficial Week 1 depth chart released Tuesday, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: While Mack is the most likely candidate to take over as the Colts' early-down back in the event Taylor misses time in 2021, Hines is expected to have more involvement in Indianapolis' weekly game plan in light of his status as the team's top pass-catching option out of the backfield. With that in mind, Hines' presence ahead of Mack on the depth chart comes as little surprise, since Hines projects to play more snaps and hold more fantasy value than Mack -- particularly in PPR formats -- while…read more

Five touches in preseason debut
Mack (Achilles) rushed four times for 12 yards and caught one pass for three more yards in Sunday's 21-18 preseason win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Mack has been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon that happened back in Week 1 of the 2020 season. The fact that the veteran back was even out there in the first preseason contest is a positive sign that his leg is back to 100 percent. In his absence, Jonathan Taylor took over as the Colts' workhorse, which leaves Mack primarily as a backup rusher (with Nyheim Hines serving as the receiving back).

Ready for training camp
Mack (Achilles) will be ready to participate fully in practice at the start of training camp according to GM Chris Ballard, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mack participated in activities with the Colts during voluntary offseason workouts but wasn't involved in practice. He suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon Week 1 last year and missed the remainder of the season. If he's back to his pre-injury form, his role will be something to watch this summer, as it's not clear how the touches will be distributed in the Indy backfield other than Jonathan Taylor being the clear lead back.

Participating in workouts
Mack (Achilles) has been participating in activities with the Colts during voluntary offseason workouts being held at team headquarters, but he hasn't been seen participating in practice, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Mack suffered a ruptured right Achilles' tendon in Week 1 last year and missed the remainder of the season. He appears to be on track for the start of training camp, but he's still taking things slowly this spring. If healthy, he'll slot in behind Jonathan Taylor to start the 2021 campaign, leaving him in line to fill a complementary role along with Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins.

Mack (Achilles) re-signed Wednesday with the Colts on a one-year, $2 million deal, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Mack suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon Week 1 and missed the remainder of the season, but he's since progressed to the point that he's expected to be full participant by the time training camp rolls around, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. At this point, Mack is estimated to be about 80 to 90 percent healthy, per Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio. Mack (Achilles) is making progress in his rehab and is on track for full clearance by the tentative start of training camp, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Mack suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon Week 1 of the 2020 campaign, paving the way for Jonathan Taylor to operate as Indianapolis' top between-the-tackles option right out of the gate. The 25-year-old appears destined to hit free agency mid-March, so giving teams confidence in his health will be key to his contract prospects. Set to become free agent
Mack, who ruptured his right Achilles' tendon in Week 1, is slated to become a free agent this offseason, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Though GM Chris Ballard didn't rule out bringing Mack back in 2021, he acknowledged that the running back, who has worked hard to recover from his injury, "deserves a good contract. I don't know if we are going to be able to do that here." In Mack's absence this past season, Jonathan Taylor established himself as the Colts' top back, while Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins worked in change-of-pace/complementary roles. Mack underwent an MRI on Monday, the results of which confirmed a torn Achilles, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The severity of Mack's injury will no doubt cause him to miss the remainder of the 2020 season, leaving Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines in line to handle increased workloads out of the Indianapolis backfield. Torn Achilles feared
The Colts fear that Mack suffered a torn Achilles against the Jaguars on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Mack is listed as the top running back on the Colts' initial unofficial depth chart.
Analysis: While rookie Jonathan Taylor has drawn rave reviews in training camp, head coach Frank Reich has said Mack is still viewed as the starter. Mack was also seen having a strong camp and improved on his receiving skills. While Taylor ultimately may win a majority of touches in the backfield, Mack looks set to be the first running back on the field. Still, the Indy coaching staff has continued to say they view their backfield as a committee with both Mack and Taylor as a "one-two punch."

Mack was impressive in Monday's scrimmage at at Lucas Oil Stadium, breaking off runs that went for more than 20 and more than 40 yards, Andrew Walker of the team's official site reports. The Colts have also been focusing on Mack's usage in the passing game as he caught more passes early in training camp than prior years, SB Nation reports.
Analysis: While rookie Jonathan Taylor has drawn raves in training camp, head coach Frank Reich has said Mack is still viewed as the starter. Reports on Mack's performance in camp have also been positive. The Indy passing game has also emphasized passing to running backs in training camp, an area where Mack could use improvement after catching just 14 of 17 targets for 82 yards and struggling in pass protection last season. Remains starter
Coach Frank Reich noted Wednesday that Mack is still viewed as the Colts' starting running back, Andrew Walker of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: That said, with second-round draft pick Jonathan Taylor also in the mix, Reich continues to suggest that the team will likely employ a one-two backfield punch in 2020. Mack rushed for 1,091 yards last season while averaging 4.4 yards per carry, but Taylor's combination of skill and draft capital make him the favorite to eventually emerge with the lead role, even if a committee technically headed by Mack is how things proceed early on this season.

Could still have role
Coach Frank Reich envisions Mack and Jonathan Taylor as a "one-two punch" in the backfield, Mike Wells of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Taylor's combination of talent and draft capital makes him the favorite to emerge with the lead role sooner than later, though custom dictates that it'll be Mack getting the first snap with the starting offense once the Colts are able to practice. Reich believes the two backs will complement each other, pointing to Mack's vision, acceleration and comfort level running outside zone, while Taylor earns praise for his size, speed and explosiveness. Increased competition for touches
Mack faces increased competition for playing time in the Indianapolis backfield after the Colts took Jonathan Taylor with the 41st pick in the NFL Draft. "Marlon is a good kid. He's a special teammate. He knows that Taylor is going to make us better and that he's going to make Marlon better," GM Chris Ballard told The Fan 1070 am Indianapolis.
Analysis: Ballard said that he texted Mack about the pick and Mack responded with "Let's go. Let's go win." Mack is entering the final season of his rookie contract and the team hadn't been talking to him about a contract extension, so this could be his last year with the Colts. Analysis: This doesn't mean an extension isn't in play, but it does suggest the Colts have bigger offseason priorities, including a potential quarterback upgrade and convincing left tackle Anthony Castonzo not to retire. Mack is entering the final season of his rookie contract, after averaging 75.7 and 77.9 rushing yards per game the past two years. Finishes season on strong note
Mack rushed 15 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-20 loss to Jacksonville.
Analysis: Mack was the lone bright spot for the Colts from a fantasy perspective, providing the only two offensive touchdowns the team could muster against the Jaguars' defense. The 23-year-old was able to eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career, proving that last year's modest breakout (908 yards and nine touchdowns over 12 games) was no fluke. Stymied in defeat
Mack rushed 11 times for 19 yards and was not targeted in Monday night's 34-7 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Mack could hardly find room to run against a swarming New Orleans front seven, and the Colts falling behind early prevented them from running more often. When they did manage to get in scoring position, it was Jordan Wilkins who was handed a one-yard touchdown out of Indy's backfield. Although his team has now been eliminated from playoff contention, Mack at least has a favorable matchup in Week 16 versus the Panthers, who've allowed the third-most rushing yards this season.

Scores TD in return
Mack (hand) rushed 13 times for 38 yards and a touchdown but wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 38-25 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Mack wasn't effective on a per-carry basis against the stingy Tampa Bay front in his return from a hand injury, but he found the end zone from two yards out in the second quarter. That was his fifth touchdown of the season, and it salvaged an otherwise forgettable performance. Mack has now reached the 900-yard mark on the ground in consecutive seasons, and he'll serve as the Colts' featured back when the team visits New Orleans in Week 15.

Analysis: After experiencing no complications with his fractured right hand following his full practice Thursday, Mack will enter the weekend minus an injury designation and put an end to a two-game absence. Mack (hand) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: Mack, who's bouncing back from a fractured right hand that he suffered Week 11, has a chance to play Sunday against the Buccaneers, per coach Frank Reich. In Mack's absence, Jordan Wilkins and Jonathan Williams have see added opportunities in the run game, while Nyheim Hines has remained the team's top pass-catching threat out of the backfield. Once he's up to speed, Mack should immediately reclaim his status as the Colts' top back and render the three others less useful for fantasy purposes.

Remains in 'monitoring' phase
Coach Frank Reich said Monday the Colts will "just monitor" Mack (hand) and "see how it (his recovery) goes" this week before determining whether or not he can return to action Sunday at Tampa Bay, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: The running back broke his right hand Week 12 versus the Jaguars and hasn't practiced or played in the interim. On Monday, Reich also mentioned Mack made "good progress" last week, but it remains to be seen if it was enough to be cleared for on-field work. Wednesday's injury report could give the first indication that a return is possible Week 14. Despite his lack of recorded practice activity since he fractured his right hand in the Week 11 win over the Jaguars, Mack's presence on the side field Friday at least represents some form of progress. Analysis: This news is expected, as Mack broke his dominant ball-carrying hand Week 11. There's still no definitive timeline, but coach Frank Reich isn't shy about tipping his hand early in the week. Though the Colts aren't providing an estimated timeline for Mack's return, the expectation is that he'll be sidelined for multiple games following surgery. Analysis: Mack once again dominated the Colts' backfield, with no other back accruing more than three carries. However, he wasn't particularly efficient -- he averaged only 3.9 yards per carry -- and failed to reach the end zone for the fifth time in his last six games.
