Receives future contract
The Bengals signed Shurmur to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old is the son of Broncos' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. The Vanderbilt product will compete for a backup role behind Joe Burrow (knee) in 2021. Brandon Allen and Ryan Finley are both favorites for the job after starting over Shurmur this year.

Joins Bengals' practice squad
The Bengals signed Shurmur to the practice squad Thursday.
Analysis: Shurmer has spent time with the Chiefs and Broncos already in his young career, and the rookie out of Vanderbilt will now get a chance to grow in Cincinnati. With Joe Burrow (knee) out for the year and Brandon Allen (knee) looking uncertain for Week 15, it's possible that Shurmer gets a chance to join the active roster in an emergency capacity.

Signing on with Broncos
Shurmur signed with Denver on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Shurmur's most recent NFL experience comes from his time with Kansas City's practice squad, but now he'll join a team that Sunday became the first in 55 years to start a non-QB under center, per the Elias Sports Bureau. A rash of COVID-19 disqualifications to Denver's QB room left practice squad call-up -- and recent wide receiver -- Kendall Hinton as the starting option Week 12 against New Orleans. Shurmur could possibly be thrust into action this upcoming Sunday in Kansas City, but starter…read more

Cut by Kansas City
The Chiefs waived Shurmur on Monday, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Shurmur spent time with the Chiefs during the 2019 offseason, and he rejoined the practice squad in November, but he now looks to have been beaten out for the No. 3 role by Jordan Ta'amu. The former Vanderbilt signal-caller will explore options for a similar depth role elsewhere in the league.

Staying in Kansas City
Shurmur signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Tuesday, according to the NFL's official transaction report.
Analysis: Shurmur spent time with the Chiefs during the preseason before eventually being cut ahead of Week 1. The former Vanderbilt quarterback returned to Kansas City's practice squad in November, where he spent the remainder of the season. With veterans Chad Henne and Matt Moore slated to become free agents, Shurmur could get a ton of valuable reps this offseason.

Returns to Chiefs' practice squad
Shurmur was added back to Kansas City's practice squad Tuesday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Shurmur briefly joined the Chiefs' roster after Patrick Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap. Chad Henne (ankle) made his return from IR last week, leading to the 22-year-old being waived. After going unclaimed, Shurmur returns to his former spot on the practice squad.

Let go by Kansas City
Shurmur was waived by the Chiefs on Saturday.
Analysis: Shurmur was promoted from Kansas City's practice squad after Patrick Mahomes (kneecap) went down Week 7, but Chad Henne (ankle) was activated off injured reserve Saturday to prompt his departure. Shurmur will be a candidate to rejoin the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.
